Landcare

Hello! My name is Patricia, and I’m a Spanish Biologist. This year I will finish a Master’s in Environmental Engineering at the University of Santiago de Compostela, Galicia.

I consider myself as an animal lover and knowing, preserving and protecting the environment has always been one of my major interests. Thanks to my studies and to my experiences working as a volunteer I have learnt useful things related to this purpose.

Working for the protection of animal wildlife at the Peruvian Amazonian forest, or for the protection and conservation of an endangered species of sea turtle in Cape Verde, taught me the important consequences of climate change and of the uncontrolled and unsustainable human activities. Also, taking part in the Landcare Project course, I could learn the main environmental issues that Mediterranean countries are facing, the corrective and preservative actions that should be implemented, as well as the future trends.

Currently, I am working on my master’s thesis, which is about restoration of mine degraded soils. In the “Landcare for the Future” program there’s a fieldtrip to one of the most important mines in Galicia, where the basics for soil restoration will be taught.

I would love to share any of the experiences above mentioned during the “Landcare for the Future” international conference and I can´t wait to hear yours! So if you are an active and passionate “environmental protector” do not hesitate to come!
