The Natural Park of the Complexo Dunar de Corrubedo e Lagoas de Carregal e Vixán was declared in 1992 by the Autonomous Government of the Xunta de Galicia. It is a protected space that covers about 1,000 hectares. It harbours 4km of dunes (the mobile dune, unique in Europe, with more than 1km in length). Other attractions in the area are beaches, freshwater and saltwater lagoons, marshes, a wide variety of fauna (birds, mammals and reptiles) and flora (endemic species in the region).
The main problems of this Natural Park are the wildfires which have degradated the area in the previous years, the overpopulation visiting the area and the walkways that cross the protected areas of the Natural Park.
The objective of this short trainning course is to observe in situ some of the erosive processes that affect this Natural Park, discuss the causes and consequences of the degradation processes and propose possible restoration and/or conservation techniques.
- Study the degradation processes.
- Discusse the current conservation practices in the Natural Park.
- Propose new restoration alternatives to be carry out to protect and restore.
